Novi Patch: Do you have any goals for this school year?

Kim Warren: Well, I'll start with the reason that I came to Novi. To me, Novi has a lot of potential. They definitely have always been an excellent school district. They have a lot of resources, they're known for their community support and just having an excellent public education system. I know some of the administration, actually. I know RJ Webber, who's the assistant superintendent in charge of curriculum, he was a principal over in South Lyon. And I knew what his vision was for the district and I also knew they were getting this new, dynamic superintendent. So if you put a strong, smart, concientious superintendent with a lot of integrity with somebody who is a go-getter and a visionary in the area of instruction and curriculum, that was the place that I wanted to be. So my goal is to support and help out with the implementation of the district's vision.

Patch: Do you foresee any challenges for the school year?

Warren: One of the challenges for me as a leader is Deerfield is a highly effective school. They're in the top 1 percent of the state for achievement, and they're just really a high-performing school, and I'm going to do my best just not to mess that up. So you can always become better, but this school was already great. So the bar is already set really high, and I'm just striving to keep moving it higher.

Patch: Is there anything that you're looking forward to?

Warren: I'm just getting to know the staff. I've had the opportunity to work this summer with the administration team over at the Board office, and I can honestly say that they are phenomenal. So it's really an exciting time to be a part of Novi Community Schools because of all the changes, and it's a great time to just pick up and create a strong vision.
