More Gold Comes to Novi

For the eighth year, Novi earns a gold award in Michigan's Promoting Active Communities program.

The city of Novi is one of only two Michigan communities to earn a Gold Level award through the 2014 Promoting Active Communities (PAC) program, which recognizes communities for their commitment to increasing the health of residents through active living design.

“Novi is a dynamic, suburban community that recognizes the importance of active lifestyles and we are extremely proud to be an eight-time Promoting Active Communities Gold Level honoree,” said Sheryl Walsh, director of communications for the city of Novi. “Our dedication to creating pathway connections, park enhancements, and creative programming keep the community active and engaged.”

Sarah Panken, Michigan Fitness Foundation’s Director of Active Communities, said Novi is committed to making changes to make community more walkable, bikeable and accessible.

“Each year Novi continues to increase their active living efforts and is getting closer to reaching the Platinum Level award,” Panken said. “To date, no Michigan community has surpassed the Gold Level.”

This is the ninth year the city of Novi has participated in the PAC program and their eighth-time earning the prestigious Gold Level award.

The PAC is facilitated by Michigan Fitness Foundation to help communities better understand their assets and barriers to active living so they can create places that support physical activity.
