Novi's Newest Eagle Scout is Robby Heil

Robby Heil set goal to earn more merit badges — 45, more than twice the number needed — than brother his Charles, also an Eagle Scout.

NOVI, MI – Robby Heil recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts.

He became the 58th Eagle Scout from Novi Boy Scout Troop 407, which is chartered by the Church of the Holy Family, Catholic Church, Novi, in December.

His Eagle Scout project comprised of him leading two teams of adults and scouts through the construction of 15 wren birdhouses (two types) and then their placement in three separate areas in Novi's Rotary Park last June.

Heil has earned over 45 merit badges so far; 21 are required to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. His goal was to get more than his older brother, Charles, did when he became an Eagle Scout.

His community service work included spending numerous hours at Gleaners, at Providence Hospital, at canned food drives, and at other boy scouts' Eagle Scout projects.

In Troop 407, Heil held the position of troop librarian for more than two years.

Several dignitaries attended his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Feb. 20: Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder; 15th District State Sen. Mike Kowall; Novi school board president George Kortlandt; Col. Craig Stigleman, representative for Congressman Dave Trott; an Ruth Ann Jirasek, representing 38th District state Rep. Kathy Crawford.

At the Novi City Council meeting on Feb. 29, Mayor Bob Gatt read and gave Heil an proclamation. He also personally congratulated the new Eagle Scout.

Heil is a junior t Novi High Schoo,l where he is the assistant trainer and manager for the varsity football team plus the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams.

His parents are Chuck and Debbie Heil.
