Planning Commission Signs Off on Valencia South Rezoning

The Novi Planning Commission removed another hurdle for the proposed Valencia South project by approving a rezoning request for the southwest corner of Beck and 10 Mile roads, according to a HometownLife report.

The commission recommended with a 4-1 vote at its Feb. 25 meeting that the area be rezoned from the current, larger-lot, R-1 residential designation to a smaller-lot, R-3 residential designation, the report stated.

Some residents from surrounding neighborhoods, however, are opposed to the rezoning for the housing development, saying such a move would create an overcrowded space of houses and make the area less marketable, the report stated. About 20 residents came out to the commission’s meeting last week to voice their concerns, the report added.

Valencia South is a proposed 66-unit, single-family development over 41.31 acres, the report stated.

The recommendation will now go before the Novi City Council, which could decide on the rezoning later this month.
