Weather Alert: Bitter Arctic Air Blast Headed Novi's Way
How much snow should metro Detroit get?

A fast-moving Arctic clipper will produce below-zero wind chill values tonight and deliver the first cold snap of the year to metro Detroit.
Heather Orow, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s office in White Lake Township told the Detroit Free Press the bone-chilling temperatures will make for a cold week.
“It’s going to get colder through the week,” Orow said. “It’s not unusual to have a cold snap like this (at this time of year). But it would be very unusual to stay this cold.”

Matt Mosteiko, another meteorologist at the White Lake station, told The Detroit News wind chill values of -17 degrees at 6 a.m. Monday. The actual temperature was around 10 degrees about 6:30 a.m. in the metro area, but the winds made it feel like -5 and -10.
Waves of cold air will flow into the Midwest and East in a U-shaped trough that starts in Wyoming dips down into the Tennessee Valley and then heads northward along the East Coast.

Southeast Michigan won’t get as much snow as some areas. Snow chances for the metro are 90 percent, Mosteiko said, but accumulations will vary from 2½ inches in Wayne and Washtenaw counties to 1-2 inches in Oakland and Macomb counties. Southern Michigan counties along the Ohio border could get 2-3 inches of snow.
