'Is This A Joke?': Oakland County Man Wins $1M Powerball Prize

The man told lottery officials he and his wife were in disbelief when they saw the $1 million prize in their online account.

ORTONVILLE, MI — An Oakland County man won a $1 million lottery prize after matching five white balls in an April Powerball drawing, according to lottery officials.

Roger Roy, 61, of Ortonville, bought the winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com. The winning ticket matched the five white balls in the drawing (03-19-35-51-67), according to lottery officials.

"They day after the drawing, I saw an email from the Lottery that was different from the ones I’m used to when I win a few dollars," Roy said. "I knew I must have won big, but I wanted to wait for my wife to get home so we could find out the prize amount together."

When they saw the $1 million prize, he said they were both in disbelief.

"All I could think was: ‘Is this a joke?’ It still feels unreal," Roy said.

"I’m sure we will do something fun with the money down the road, but for now we just plan to save it and use it as a financial cushion," he added.
