INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MI — Police are investigating a Tuesday night armed robbery in Oakland County.
The incident happened at 10:44 p.m. at the Jimmy John's located at 5601 Sashabaw Road in Independence Township, according to sheriff's officials.
Officials said a man smashed through a glass rear door and confronted two store employees with a handgun.
He demanded access to the safe, but the 21-year-old Grand Blanc Township woman and 19-year-old Clarkston woman told him they don't have access to the safe, officials said.
He then ordered both women to place their purses on the counter, officials said.
The man took both purses and ran out through the rear door on foot, officials said.
Officers quickly established a perimeter in the area with a K-9 unit and drones, but could not find the man.
Investigators only described the man as wearing a mask, black hooded sweatshirt and black shoes. They did not release any other details about the man.
Officials ask anyone with information about the robbery to call the County Sheriff's Office Independence Township Substation at 248-620-4968, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP.
