ORTONVILLE, MI — An Ortonville man is facing charges after beating his wheelchair-bound mother and pointing a gun at the mother of his children, according to prosecutors.
Aaron Hutyra, 34, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence and two counts of felony firearm.
He was placed in jail with a $50,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for July 2.
The incident happened on Sunday when prosecutors said a drunken Hutyra attacked his wheelchair-bound mother and threatened to kill himself and his parents.
The woman was taken to a hospital with several injuries, including a broken nose and a brain bleed, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also said Hutyra pointed a gun at the mother of his children.
Prosecutors did not release any further details about the incident.
"Firearms make domestic violence situations significantly more dangerous for victims," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "Research shows women are five times more likely to be murdered when their abusers have access to firearms. Our thoughts are with the victim as she recovers from her injuries, and we will work to hold this defendant accountable."
