1 Dead in Early Morning Fire
Firefighters trying to rescue the lone occupant of a mobile home were turned back by smoke and rapidly deteriorating conditions.

One person died in a morning fire in a mobile home park at 51000 Mott Road in the southwest part of Canton Township.
The mobile home was fully engulfed in fire when Canton firefighters arrived at the park at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters were challenge by both brutal 8-degree temperatures and lack of a continuous water source. Rescuers tried to enter the home to search for the occupant, but were turned back by heavy smoke in the rapidly deteriorating building.
The body of an adult was found inside the charred remains of the mobile home, but Canton Fire Chief Joshua Meier didn’t say if the person was male or female, the Detroit Free Press reports.

“It’s an unfortunate outcome,” Meier said.
There are no fire hydrants in the park, and firefighters had to rely on the water in its tanker and a tanker brought in by nearby Superior Township. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about 20 minutes.
