2016 Michigan Election Results: Canton Local Races

Democrats take five of seven trustee spots, Siegrist earns clerk position, Slavens ousts current treasurer.

(Posted Nov. 9, 2016) CANTON, MI — It was a long night for everyone, and unofficial Canton Township election results weren't confirmed until about 6 a.m.Wednesday. In Tuesday's election, supervisor candidate Pat Williams was one of only two Republicans to win in Canton Township, defeating Dr. Syed Taj for the supervisor position, The Canton Observer reports.

John Anthony was the only other Republican, narrowly earning a four-year term as trustee. Five Democrats won positions with Canton Township, which has long been a Republican enclave.

In the race for treasurer, former state Rep. Dian Slavens ousted incumbent Republican Treasurer Melissa McLaughlin. Michael Siegrist, a Plymouth-Canton school board trustee, won the township clerk's race by defeating GOP hopeful Linda Obrec.
