The store clerk gave police a description of the stolen Kia, and an officer monitoring traffic on Interstate 96 saw the car on the freeway, just east of Newburgh Road moments later, police said.
The officer, with his police cruiser's lights and sirens on, chased the car on the freeway before the Kia exited at Schoolcraft Road, west of Merriman Road, police said.
Police said the officer continued chasing the Kia south on Merriman Road.
The Kia then ran a red light at the intersection of Merriman and Plymouth roads and struck a 2016 Corvette and a Dodge Caravan, before smashing into a telephone pole and coming to a rest next to the Mobil gas station on that corner, police said.
The three men then got out of the Kia and ran away from the scene, but were quickly captured by officers, police said.
The Corvette's driver, a 28-year-old Livonia man, and the four occupants of the minivan that was driven by a 41-year-old Illinois man, were not injured in the crash, police said.
Brown was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital for injuries, police said. He was condition was unknown.
