The county has purchased $4 million in road maintenance equipment and hired 50 seasonal employees for projects in 23 communities.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI – Wayne County has purchased nearly $4 million for 62 new pieces of roads maintenance equipment and has hired 50 seasonal employees to help complete a $30 million capital improvement project in 21 communities.

The projects were announced Tuesday.

“We’ve made smart investments with our limited resources by purchasing new equipment and hiring a qualified and motivated seasonal workforce,” County Executive Warren C. Evans said in a statement.

Besides the capital improvement projects in 21 cities and townships, road maintenance projects are planned in several others, he said.

More than 36,000 tons of asphalt will be used in resurfacing repairs on county primary and local roads. Road crews will also use more than 6,600 tons of cold patching material for potholes.

Evans said the county stretched its federal and state road dollars by prioritizing projects by need and collaborating with communities.

However, he added that more resources are needed for infrastructure. This year, his administration will host a series of summits with local leaders to identify solutions to reform the local municipal funding system.
