MI Man Had 'Contentious' Relationship With Parents Before Killing Them, 2 Others: Police

Police said the man has no criminal record or known history of mental health issues.

LIVONIA, MI — A man accused of fatally shooting his mom, dad, brother and his brother's girlfriend at a Livonia home Tuesday had a "contentious" relationship with his parents, according to police.

The shooting happened at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday at a home located at 19332 Rensellor Road, near Seven Mile and Inkster roads, according to police.

Livonia Police Chief Tom Goralski identified the victims as Sterling Ray Pierce, 58, and Holly Marie Kindle, 53, Tanner Ray Pierce, 22, and Nevayah May Joslin Finch, 21.

Goralski said officers found the parents in the home's backyard and the brother and his girlfriend inside a bedroom, all dead from gunshot wounds.

When officers arrived at the home, they were met by a man who exited the home with his hands raised. He told officers that he had shot his family before he was arrested, Goralski said.

Goralski did not identify the 25-year-old man as charges were pending. He did say the man lived in the home and had a "contentious" relationship with his parents, though it was unclear if that had anything to do with the shooting.

Investigators don't believe the man had any conflict with his brother or his brother's girlfriend, Goralski said.

He did not release any other details on a potential motive.

While searching the home, investigators found a semi-automatic rifle, which they believe was used in the shooting, Goralski said.

Goralski said there have been no prior incidents at the home before the fatal shooting. He also noted the suspect has no criminal record or known history of mental health issues.

Goralski said there is no threat to the public as the investigation continues.

"This is a tragic event for our city, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the loved ones affected by this incident," Goralski said.
