Metro Detroit Man Wins $1M On Wrong Lottery Ticket

The man told lottery officials he usually avoids the Detroit Lions Rush For Riches Fast Cash game.

SOUTH LYON, MI — An Oakland County man won a $1 million on a Michigan Lottery fast cash game he typically avoids, according to lottery officials.

The 68-year-old man, who chose to remain anonymous, told lottery officials he avoids playing the Michigan Lottery’s Detroit Lions Rush For Riches Fast Cash game because he hasn't had luck with it.

But when he stopped at the Speedway gas station, located at 22380 Pontiac Trail in South Lyon, he forgot to tell the cashier to not print the Detroit Lions game.

So when he ended up with the Detroit Lions game, he folded up the ticket and placed it in his back pocket.

"The next morning when I looked over the ticket and saw I’d won the jackpot, I stopped my wife as she was walking by, handed her the ticket, and said: ‘You’re not going to believe this!’ Once she saw what I’d won, she started crying," he said.

"It was an exciting and emotional day for us," he said. "All I’ve been thinking since winning is how glad I am that I forgot to tell the cashier not to give me the Detroit Lions game!"

He recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize, which he plans to use to take care of his family, lottery officials said.
