Toddler Found With Loaded Gun At Canton Daycare: Police

CANTON, MI — A parent has been arrested after their toddler was found with a loaded gun at a Canton daycare Monday, according to police.

News reports identified the daycare as the Children's World's Early Learning Center, located at 7437 Sheldon Road.

Staff called police and said the toddler was in possession of a loaded firearm inside the building, according to police.

Officers arrived at the center and seized the gun.

One parent has been arrested and police said charges will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Michigan's firearm storage law requires firearms to be secured when they could be accessible to a minor.

Police did not release any other details as the investigation continues.

"The Canton Police Department wishes to assure the community that there is no ongoing threat associated with this incident," police said in a statement. "The Canton Police Department remains committed to thoroughly investigating all weapons-related offenses, taking these matters with the utmost seriousness."
