LIVONIA, MI — The last Daly restaurant in metro Detroit has closed for good.
The Livonia restaurant located along Plymouth Road thanked its final customers Wednesday after 67 years.
Daly staff first announced the closing in April, but remained open through the summer.
"We know that the sudden closing will disappoint many of you, but everyone knew that it was coming eventually," staff said in a Facebook post. "We wanted to avoid the mayhem that we went through in May and June. That was terribly hard on some of the staff, and we did not want to put them through that again."
The owner told CBS Detroit in April that he was retiring due to health complications. He also pointed to financial problems, such as the building needing a new roof for the closing.
The restaurant was best known for its simple burgers, hot dogs, fries, shakes and malts.
They were also famous for their Dalyburger Sauce. Staff said they were in talks with Holiday Market in Canton about selling the popular sauce in the store, but those plans don't look promising, they said.
At one point, there were Daly-branded spots throughout the metro Detroit area, including in Dearborn Heights, Warren and others.
