Popular Wayne County Burger Joint Closes After Fire

Staff were still assessing the damage and working to determine a reopening date.

LIVONIA, MI — A popular burger joint in Wayne County closed down after an early morning fire Tuesday.

Bates' Burgers, located on 5 Mile Road in Livonia, is closed Tuesday after staff said a fire broke out at 3 a.m., destroying the grill and causing the restaurant to fill with smoke.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but officials were still assessing the damage. It's unclear when the burger joint will reopen.

"We thank the quick response from the Livonia firefighters and the bystander that called in the fire," Bates staff said on Facebook. "We will update you as soon as we assess the damage."

Bates’ is a family-owned business with locations in Livonia and Farmington Hills that’s been operating since 1959.
