The National Highway Traffic Safety administration said Wednesday the massive Takata airbag recall will more than double in size, according to media reports.

ABC News reported that latest recall of the airbags, which can send shrapnel flying around the vehicle when they rupture, will include about 40 million more airbags, on top of 28.8 already recalled.

At least 10 deaths have been attributed to the faulty airbags that are installed in nearly a dozen popular auto brands.
