CANTON, MI – It pays — in Jonathan Hicks’ case, $465.40 — to be one of the first in line.

That’s how much he would have paid for the 52 cheeseburgers Hicks has eaten over the past 52 weeks at Canton Bagger Dave’s, his prize a year ago for being one of the first 50 in line for the restaurant’s grand opening last February.

Other customers also won prizes at the grand opening, but restaurant officials think Hicks is the only one who held Bagger Dave’s to its cheeseburger-a-week promise.

The Canton Bagger Dave’s gets strong reviews from the Michigan Burger Boys — friends Lucas and Kevin McCown, who are eating their way across the state in a quest for the perfect burger. They hadn’t been impressed with the chain until they tried the Canton location, which they gave a ranking of 32 points on a 40-point scale.
