Canton Man Bilked Out of $1,430 in Job Offer Scam
Beware anyone who asks you to make suspicious money transfers.
(Posted Nov. 8, 2016) CANTON, MI — A 26-year-old Canton man fell victim to a scheme perpetuated through Backpage.com and was swindled out of $1,430, The Canton Observer reported. He applied for a job through the online classifieds website, then was told he would get a check in the mail that he needed to deposit in the bank account and then transfer to an orphanage, according to a police report. When the man realized he had been tricked, he notified Canton police, who told him his best recourse was to work with the bank to get his money back.
