The 2012 Plymouth Ice Festival is a go after the Plymouth City Commission approved its special events permit Tuesday, but Mayor Dan Dwyer called on the community for more support, according to a report by the Plymouth Observer.
At its meeting, commissioners discussed setting stricter deadlines for organizers to pay for city services for such events and Mayor Dan Dwyer warned that if the community doesn't step up to support the ice festival, the event and similar downtown features could disappear, the report said.
According to the report, Dwyer said City Attorney Robert Marzano is considering changes to a city policy that requires organizers of events relying on city services to pay the city's costs for the event within a specific time frame. The bill from last year's Ice Festival, which exceeded $19,000, wasn't paid until recently, the report said.

According to the report, organizer Sam Walton, who was not at the meeting, echoed Dwyer's call for community support Wednesday, telling the Plymouth Observer the event cannot continue to go on without community support.
