Detroit Shooting Suspects Crash SUV In Livonia During Police Chase: Cops

The suspects lead police on a wild chase through Livonia after officers tried stopping them in Detroit, police said.

LIVONIA, MI — Two men were arrested Monday afternoon in connection to a Detroit shooting after leading police on a chase and crashing in Livonia, police said.

Detroit Police said they spotted a man wanted in connection to a previous shooting driving a stolen SUV near Fenkell Avenue and Beaverland Street in Detroit. The SUV sped off when officers tried to stop it, police said.

Police followed the SUV into the westbound lanes on Interstate 96 near Merriman Road when they alerted Michigan State Troopers who joined the pursuit, which took them onto northbound Interstate 275, police said.

As police caught up in the chase, the speeding SUV tried to exit the freeway at Six Mile Road when the driver of the SUV lost control and crashed down an embankment, police said.

A 25-year-old man was thrown out of the SUV and a 46-year-old man was tossed into the SUV's rear as it caught fire, police said.

Officials quickly put out the fire and took both men to a nearby hospital, police said.

They were arrested shortly later in connection to a non-fatal May shooting in Detroit near McNichols Road and Riverdale Drive, police said.
