Five Things You Should Know This Week

Looking ahead on the week's calendar.

1. p board of trustees has canceled Tuesday's study session. But the township's merit commission – which oversees pay for the township's non-union employees - is set to meet at 5:15 p.m. today in the township administration building.

2. Township offices are closed all day on Thursday and Friday, reopening Monday. will be closed Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

3.  Speaking of the library, readers (and maybe a history buff or two can join the 7 p.m. discussion of "Suite Francaise" by the late Irene Nemirovsky. The book is novellas set in France during World War II. After the Nazis stormed Paris, Nemirovsky was taken from her home and sent to Auschwitz, where she died.

4. Canton Leisure Services has scheduled special open swims from 1 to 3 p.m., at 's pool, starting today through Dec. 30.

5. The chances of catching the full eclipse of the moon are pretty slim, given weather predictions for a mostly cloudy sky. Sure, the first complete lunar eclipse to happen on winter solstice in nearly 500 years will be sometime after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. That's the bad news. The good news? The National Weather Service is predicting an overcast sky. Maybe this will help.
