Former Michigan Football Star Faces Assault, Drug Charges: Report

ANN ARBOR, MI — A former Michigan Wolverines football star is facing multiple felonies in connection with a fight, according to an ESPN report.

Jabrill Peppers, a former Wolverines star and current New England Patriots team captain, was arrested Saturday morning after a fight at a home in Braintree, Massachusetts, according to the report.

One person was treated for injuries at the scene, according to the report.

Police said Peppers, who turns 29 this week, will be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and possession of cocaine in connection with the incident.

Peppers, who plays safety for the Patriots, did not play in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

"We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating," the Patriots said in a statement, per Ian Rapoport. "We will have no further comment at this time."

Peppers played defensive back, linebacker and returned kicks for the Wolverines from 2014-2016.

After the 2016 season, Peppers was named the Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year, Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year, Rodgers-White Return Specialist of the Year and a unanimous All-American.
