Ladywood High School students perform in One Acts
Ladywood High School theatre fall production

A parody of “America’s Got Talent.” A science fiction take on a future in which everyone has turned blue. A who-done-it murder mystery with a twist.
This weekend Ladywood High School will present An Evening of One Acts, featuring three one act plays that have something for everyone. 13 students from Ladywood will take the stage, as well as 2 male students from Plymouth Christian Academy.
The first one act, “The Great American Talent Show,” is a parody of a televised talent competition. “As one of the co-hosts, I’m just trying to keep the show moving along,” jokes senior Kelly Gambino from Livonia. “Each of the contestants need some help.” The talent show features six talented competitors performing in the grand finale, including: a country singer, a makeover artist, an impressionist, and more.

In “Blue,” Tracey Logan wakes up in a strange place in which everyone is blue. She tries to navigate her new surroundings, and is faced with the decision of whether or not to join her new friends. “She has a difficult choice to make,” says freshman Ana Mercado, who plays Tracey. “There were two endings in the script, and our director let us choose.”
The final act features a play within a play, as a group of actors squabbles while performing “A Murdered Mystery.” “It’s a really funny show,” says Gambino. “Although the ending might leave the audience scratching their heads.”

Nevin Ruiter-Diaz from Plymouth, and Miranda Schriedel from Novi. 2017 alum Emily Betz returned to design the costumes. An Evening of One-Acts is directed by Laura Rea, a new teacher at Ladywood and ‘97 alum.
An Evening of One-Acts will run this weekend only, with a curtain time of 7:00 p.m. on both Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18, at Ladywood High School, 14680 Newburgh Road, Livonia. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and they can be purchased at the door.
