WESTLAND, MI — A man stole a truck in Westland and struck its owner while driving away before crashing in Detroit on Wednesday night, Michigan State Police said.

State troopers said the 18-year-old stole a white 2021 Ford F-150 pickup truck and hit the truck's owner as he drove away from the Westland home Wednesday night.

Troopers then tracked the truck driving east on Davison Street near Livernois Avenue in Detroit, officials said.

As troopers began the pursuit, the truck took off, speeding through a red light when it was hit by another truck at the intersection of Davison and Livernois at 10:35 p.m., officials said.

Both drivers ran away from the crash, officials said. Troopers said they eventually chased down the 18-year-old thief and turned him over to Westland Police. Police also recovered the stolen truck.
