- Plymouth hockey hires hall of fame coach with state title appearances. Brian Dallas, the former coach of the co-op team between Dearborn and Dearborn Edsel Ford, applied for Plymouth's opening this past spring. "As I said in the interview, I think Plymouth is a sleeping giant," Dallas told Hometown Life. (Hometown Life)
- Birmingham schools are planning to lay off teachers after the district reported a $14 million budget shortfall, according to reports. Birmingham school officials blamed the miscalculated budget on declining enrollment, which they said the district has lost more than 600 students in the last two years and more than 1,000 students over the last decade. - Traffic congestion on metro Detroit highways is expected to peak Friday afternoon as drivers hit the road for the Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA's annual Memorial Day weekend travel forecast. (Detroit Patch)
