The gun, an AK-47, was found in the front passenger seat of their vehicle. It was unloaded, but police found a 30-round clip loaded with 20 rounds in the vehicle, along with an empty .762-mm ammunition box. An empty vodka bottle was also seized as evidence.

Both men are scheduled for arraignment in 35th District Court on Monday, May 9.

The Wixom man, who was driving the vehicle when it was stopped, will be arraigned on a drunken driving charge. Both suspects face improper possession of a firearm charges for allegedly failing to secure the weapon, and the passenger also faces charges of possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana.

Police don’t know why the men had the gun on the top level of the parking deck.

“There was really no explanation given,” Grabowski said.
