Plymouth Nonprofit Looks To Rebuild City's Largest Park

PLYMOUTH, MI — A Plymouth nonprofit is asking the community for help to rebuild the city's largest and most used park.

The Fairground Park Association says the play structure at Fairground Park deteriorated to the point of needing full replacement.

They are trying to raise $125,000 to help fund a new playground.

The grassroots organization, formed by a group of neighbors, says they are in active discussions with the City of Plymouth about a potential cost-sharing partnership.

The Fairground Park project would include new playground equipment, such as a main tower structure, glide-along elements, and a full swing set with inclusive, tire swing and belt swing options.

It would also include new concrete pathways, lighting and furnishings, such as benches, bike racks and trash cans.

The total cost of the project could range from $309,000 to $364,000, but the group has cited past cost-sharing arrangements involving the city.

For example, Plymouth city officials approved a $369,978 renovation of Lion's Club Park earlier this year after the group committed $150,000 toward that total.
