9 Hurt In Canton Township Fiery Crash: Police

CANTON TOWNSHIP, MI — Nine people were injured in a fiery crash Wednesday morning in Canton Township, according to police.
The crash happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of Ford Road and Haggerty Road, near Interstate 275, according to police.
Police said five of the patients were occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash, and four were police officers working to rescue the trapped occupants.

They were all taken to a nearby hospital with injuries varying from minor to critical, according to police.
Investigators believe an SUV was speeding south in the northbound lanes on Haggerty Road when it slammed into a semi-truck that was turning at the intersection, according to a WWJ news report.

Police said the roadway will stay closed for next several hours as they continue their investigation.
"Due to the severity of the incident, the intersection is closed in all directions. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while crews work to manage the scene and ensure public safety," police said. "Please use alternate routes until notified of the intersection re-opening."
