Recent studies and polls show that the ability to have a life outside of work is a top concern among American worker, including an Allstate/National Journal of Heartland Monitor Poll of 1,000 American adults that 76 percent put a higher priority on family and personal life than the job they do.

5. Substitute teacher (fills in during teacher absences): The work-life balance rating was 4.0, and the average annual salary was about $40,000 industrywide.
