Sex with Girl Under 13 Could Mean 15-Year Prison Sentence

CANTON, MI – A Sterling Heights man who had sex with a girl under the age of 13 after meeting her on a social media site will be sentenced on March 24 after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
By accepting the deal, he avoids a jury trial and potentially longer prison sentence. Charges that were dismissed included:

- One count of child sexually abusive activity, a 20-year felony;
- One count of computer Internet use for communication with another to commit a crime, a 20-year felony;
- Two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13, a 15-year felony; and
- One count of accosting children for immoral purposes, a four-year felony.
“It’s another predator off the street,” Canton Special Services Lt. Craig Wilsher told the newspaper. “We know he can’t victimize anyone else.”

He said the case should serve as a reminder to parents that sex predators often lurk online and that they should monitor their children’s Internet activity.
