Summer Garage Sales Open this Weekend

Yard sale season begins today. Homeowners throughout Canton will drag out their used, unwanted (or just plain cumbersome) odds and ends and set up shop in their driveways. Most sales will begin at 9 a.m. and run until late afternoon, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

According to township officials, Canton does not require licenses or permits to host garage sales, though there are certain restrictions when it comes to advertising them. Sale signs are not permitted on properties between the sidewalk and the street or on neighborhood entrance islands.

The township supervisor’s office suggests running a classified ad as the best route to avoid brushing up against any local ordinances. Canton police will remove any signs posted in restricted areas.

Among the subdivisions hosting garage sales starting today and running through Saturday are:

• Glengarry Village: East side of Canton Center Road, between Palmer and Cherry Hill Road.
• Century Farms: West Side of Haggerty Road, between Cherry Hill Road and Palmer Road.
• Nowland Estates: East side of Sheldon Road, between Palmer Road and Cherry Hill Road.
• Meadowbrook: West side of Canton Center Road, between Sheldon Road and Warren Road.
• Royal Pointe: West Side of Beck Road, between Warren Road and Cherry Hill Road.
• Central Park: West side of Beck Road, between Cherry Hill and Geddes roads.
• Huntington Place: East side of Beck Road, between Cherry Hill Road and Geddes Road.

The historic , 321 Ridge Rd., will also host a yard sale, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
