The Wolverines are also looking to retool their roster after numerous players signed professionally to play in the NHL, including three who were selected in the top five of the 2021 NHL Draft: Owen Power (No. 1 overall, Buffalo Sabres), forward Matty Beniers (No. 2, Seattle Kraken) and forward Kent Johnson (No. 5, Columbus Blue Jackets).

The Wolverines also announced earlier this month that head coach Mel Pearson will not return for the 2022-23 season after a scathing report found he lied to investigators who were looking into a complaint that was filed against the program in October 2021.

Other marquee matchups on the Wolverines schedule include a trip to South Bend in early November and the "Duel in the D" game against the Michigan State Spartans on Feb. 11, 2023 at the Little Caesars Arena with Michigan acting as the home team.
