ANN ARBOR, MI — A canine is recovering after police rescued her Tuesday morning from the Huron River's icy water in Ann Arbor's Gallup Park.

The dog, Frankie, chased a swan onto ice while playing fetch with her owner before falling into the icy water, stranding her offshore, police said.

Sergeant Kory Petterle and other officers began using a battering ram to break through the ice, as Frankie was heard crying from the freezing water.
