Scammers claiming to be IRS agents have been calling and threatening Canton residents with arrest as part of a scheme to defraud them are beginning to pop up again, according to a HometownLife reportCanton police are warning residents not to fall for the scam, which involves telling the victims to pay large sums of tax money they supposedly owe in order to avoid going to jail, the report stated. The scammers ask to have the cash sent by wire, transferred from bank accounts or settled with a prepaid credit card, the report added. Last year, a 66-year-old Canton woman was bilked out of $4,900 from a such a con job, the report stated.
