Wayne County Man Arrested After Chase, Standoff With Officers: Police
Police said they received a call that the man was armed with a gun and was heading into Canton to possibly harm himself or others.
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, MI — A man was arrested after an hourslong standoff with officers Monday in Wayne County, according to police.
Canton Police said they received a call at 4 p.m. Monday that a driver, who was armed with a gun, was heading into Canton with the possible intent of harming himself or others.
An officer tried stopping the car, but police said the driver sped away and led them on a brief chase. The chase ended at the driver's home in the 6000 block of Sandalwood in Van Buren Township, according to police.

The man ran into the home and barricaded himself inside with two family members, according to police.
Officers surrounded the home and members of Canton’s Crisis Negotiation Team began talking to the man, according to police.

The man released the hostages about an hour later. They were both physically unharmed, according to police.
The man surrendered to officers at 8 p.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation, according to police.
Police will turn over the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for potential charges.
