Westland Man Kills Girlfriend, Arrest Made After 8 hour Standoff: Police

Police said a man shot his girlfriend to death and then locked himself inside a Westland mobile home trailer for more than eight hours.

WESTLAND, MI — A man was arrested Wednesday morning after police said he fatally shot his girlfriend and then barricaded himself inside a Westland trailer for more than eight hours, according to Westland Police.

Police found 41-year-old Tabitha Cornwall shot to death in a Jeep Grand Cherokee at a mobile home park on Glenwood Road near Wayne Road around 1 a.m., police said.

Police believe she was trying to get away from her boyfriend after a domestic dispute, police said.

Police then surrounded the mobile home park with a SWAT team, leading to a standoff for more than eight hours before officers arrested the man, police said.
