1 Dead, 2 Arrested In Oakland County Shooting: Sheriff

PONTIAC, MI — Two men were arrested in connection with a Wednesday fatal shooting at a Pontiac apartment complex, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Officers found 33-year-old Cornelius James Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at 9:30 p.m. inside an apartment building in the 200 block of Carriage Circle, according to the sheriff's office.

Jones was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to the sheriff's office.

A 22-year-old man and another 22-year-old man were arrested in connection with the shooting, according to the sheriff's office.

Witnesses, who were inside the apartment, told officers Jones was arguing with another man he knew, according to the sheriff's office.

They told officers the man was yelling at Jones for spitting in a sink inside the apartment, saying it was "disrespectful," according to the sheriff's office.

Jones then told the man and another man to leave the apartment, and that's when the man shot Jones, according to the sheriff's office, citing witnesses.

The shooter and a second man ran from the apartment after the shooting, according to the sheriff's office.

Officers tracked down the shooter and the second man shortly later, according to the sheriff's office.

One man was arrested immediately and the second man was captured after a brief foot chase, according to the sheriff's office.

During the foot chase, the second man lost a handgun, which officials believe was used in the fatal shooting, according to the sheriff's office.

Criminal charges were expected soon, according to the sheriff's office.
