1 Dies In Fight At GM Plant In Lake Orion: Officials

LAKE ORION, MI — A Pontiac man was killed after a fight between co-workers inside the General Motors plant in Lake Orion Thursday morning, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials said officers found the 49-year-old victim lying on the ground, unconscious and bleeding near the dock Thursday morning at 1:37 a.m. Officers tried to revive him, but were unsuccessful and pronounced him dead, officials said.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man, who was standing in the dock area not far from where officers found the victim, officials said. Police also said they found an item that was used in the slaying.

Officials do not know where the suspect is from, but placed him in the Oakland County Jail. Both the victim and suspect were co-workers for a cleaning crew hired by GM, and were not GM employees.

The GM plant was on lockdown Thursday morning and has closed the plant while officials investigate.

"General Motors is working with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department to investigate an incident at the Orion Assembly Plant in Lake Orion, Michigan," a statement from GM said. "In the meantime, GM has canceled Aug. 11 production at Orion Assembly."
