5 Things To Know This Week in Rochester and Rochester Hills

Get the scoop on what's happening July 29-Aug. 4 around town, including a new neighbor meet-up, summer reading program and baseball try-outs.

1. Green City Committee: The city of Rochester is looking for people to serve on its Green City Committee. Applications can be found on the city website. Members would help the city adopt green initiatives and help Rochester become a leader in the green movement. 

2. Players needed: Jim Keaser posted on Rochester Patch that The Oakland Iron Pigs are looking for experienced players. If interested, meet behind VanHoosen Middle School on the Rochester Adams Varsity Softball field at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Iron Pigs are part of AAA NOBF Baseball.

3. Meet your neighbors: The Newcomers and Neighbors Club of Rochester is a social group for people who live in Rochester, Rochester Hills, Troy and its surrounding communities in Michigan, according to a post by Sonia Daily. The group is having a meet-up event on Friday afternoon. RSVP to rochesternewcomers@gmail.com or 248-805-1385 to get location details.

4.  Summer reading: There still is time to register for the Rochester Hills Public Library summer reading program, which ends Aug. 10. Go to www.rhpl.org/summerreading for details. 

5. Weather forecast: Cooler temperatures will continue throughout the week, with a high of 70, a low of 53 and a chance of showers forecast Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
