The American Brass Quintet Opens the 2017-18 Chamber Music Society of Detroit's Oakland University Series

Series begins on Sunday, September 24 at 3 PM at Varner Recital Hall on campus

The American Brass Quintet, one of the world’s premier chamber music ensembles, will open the 2017-18 Chamber Music Society of Detroit’s Oakland University series on Sunday, September 24 at 3 PM. The concert will take place in Varner Recital Hall, located on the OU campus at 371 Varner Drive in Rochester.

The American Brass Quintet’s program offers a mix of old and new, including a selection of Consort Music from Elizabethan and Jacobean England, the rich polyphony of European Renaissance masters Palestrina, Josquin and Martini, a suite of brass music from nineteenth century Russia, as well as newer works by Joan Tower, Steven Franklin and Anders Hillborg.

The American Brass Quintet’s impressive history includes performances in Asia, Australia, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East and all fifty of the United States; a discography of nearly sixty recordings; and the premieres of over one hundred and fifty contemporary brass works. The ABQ has been in residence at The Juilliard School since 1987 and the Aspen Music Festival since 1970. The ensemble is the 2013 recipient of Chamber Music America’s highest honor, the Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award for significant and lasting contributions to the field.
