MI 6th-Grader Among Finalists In Doodle For Google Contest: Here's How To Vote

A Michigan sixth-grader is one of five national finalists in the annual Doodle for Google contest.

The contest asks students (K-12) to draw a new version of Google's logo for the search engine's homepage.

Lerui Zheng, who attends Avondale GATE Middle School in Rochester Hills, was selected for his submission "Turning Brass into Happiness."

The art piece features brightly drawn musical notes stretched across Google's letters, which he turned into brass instruments.

He said his superpower is "creating harmony with brass instruments," and that he wants people to find happiness and joy through music.

"The French horn, trombone, trumpet, sousaphone, and tuba make the music in the air feel golden," Zheng said. "The symphony created by these instruments helps people feel relaxed and hopeful. My power is making music that brings joy around the world."

All five finalists have already won a $10,000 college scholarship. The winner will see that scholarship bumped up to $55,000, as well as bring in an additional $50,000 technology grant.
