1 Dead, 1 Seriously Hurt In Oakland County Crash: Sheriff

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.

PONTIAC, MI — A 50-year-old Waterford Township man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in an Oakland County crash Thursday night, according to sheriff's officials.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and University Drive in Pontiac, where officials said a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee collided with a 2006 Chevrolet HHR.

Officers found the driver of the HHR, Nahum Ponce Quevedo, unconscious and not breathing, according to officials.

A 25-year-old woman, who was a passenger inside the HHR, was found unconscious but breathing, according to officials.

Quevedo was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to officials.

The woman was also taken to a nearby hospital where she was listed in critical condition, according to officials.

Officials said neither Quevedo nor his passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Jeep, a 55-year-old Waterford Township man, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, officials said.

Investigators said the crash happened at the intersection, but have not yet determined who improperly entered the intersection to cause the crash.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor.

Officials are still investigating the crash.
