The 27-year-old Waterford Township man was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Impala when he slammed into the fully marked
police car that was positioned to block traffic, officials said.

The man was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, officials said.

Officers were several yards away investigating a separate incident on the road and were not injured in the crash, officials said.

The police car had its emergency lights activated at the time of the collision, officials said.

Investigators have not determined whether alcohol, drugs or speed were factors in the crash.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard emphasized the importance of motorists remaining alert and complying with Michigan's Move Over Law.

"I cannot overstate the safety and legal need to follow the law and move over one lane away from any stopped emergency vehicle," Bouchard Said. "These crashes are too common and often deadly. Please, pay attention, slow down, and move over."

Officials are still investigating the crash.
