Officials said a 30-year-old Attica Township man was driving a 2014 Buick Regal south on Lapeer Road when he slammed into a semi truck.

The semi truck was moving north on Lapeer Road and attempting to utilize the median crossover near West Oakwood Road, officials said.

Investigators believe the semi truck turned into the path of the Buick, resulting in the crash.

The driver of the Buick was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated. He was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, officials said.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured in the crash.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. However, they do believe the Buick may have been speeding, which contributed to the severity of the crash.

Officials were still investigating the crash.
