One worker entered the trench to glue pipe together at 9:25 a.m. when a wall collapsed and buried him beneath the soil, officials said.

Crews were able to pull the 35-year-old Ira Township man from the trench, officials said.

He was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition while undergoing further evaluation, officials said.

Investigators from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) are leading a workplace safety investigation.
