Prosecutors said 23-year-old Ruben Aleman Contreras aimed a handgun toward another man's head during a dispute at the park.

A third man intervened and the fight escalated with shots fired, according to prosecutors.

One man suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Contreras ran away after firing the shots, but officers eventually arrested him.

Witnesses told police they heard three to six shots during the fight.

Contreras was charged with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and three counts of felony firearm.

Assault with intent to murder is punishable by life in prison.

"People have a right to enjoy a Sunday afternoon at the park without fear of gun violence," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "One man is in the hospital, and everyone who was at Jaycee Park has been affected by this incident because this defendant chose to resolve a dispute with a gun."

Prosecutors did not release any details.
