Avondale High School Science Teacher Receives Grant from the MEEMIC Foundation for Future Education

The Avondale School District announces that Avondale High School science teacher, Amy Brown, has received a grant in the amount of $2,488.86 from the MEEMIC Foundation for the Future of Education.

The grant request was made by Ms. Brown to purchase lab equipment and lab kits to enhance the AP biology experience. Specifically, the grant will be used for the purchase of a water bath and an incubator to grow bacteria and a forensic DNA fingerprinting kit, as well as lab kits that support lab experiments. Ms. Brown says the new materials will engage the students and help prepare them for the AP biology exam in May.

“The labs are designed to help students understand problems, develop hypotheses, design experiments, analyze data, draw conclusions and think analytically,” states Ms. Brown. “Plus, there are questions on the AP biology exam that will relate directly back to the labs. This grant is going to have a very meaningful impact on Avondale’s AP biology students and I’m grateful to MEEMIC for their generosity.”
