(Auburn Hills)- Master motorcycle craftsman Eric Gorges, owner of Voodoo Choppers, is gearing up for a move. In an effort to better serve a growing customer base in Oakland County, Gorges is set to relocate his custom bike building business from Clinton Township to Auburn Hills on April 1st. A fully equipped custom garage, Voodoo Choppers offers a wide range of specialty products and services with a focus on handcrafted “One to One” machines. Gorges’ signature motorcycles are designed and built to spec to fit individual customer’s riding style and physical characteristics. In addition to award winning custom builds, the shop will also offer specialized bike components such as handlebars, fuel tanks, fenders, exhausts and frames. The garage will work on motor transmission upgrades and rebuilds and perform regular maintenance and service. Voodoo Choppers bike apparel will be available for sale at the in-house retail shop and on-line store.
Gorges initially founded Voodoo Choppers after a devastating health crisis forced him to walk away from a lucrative corporate career. After years of apprenticeship with local metal shaper Ron Fournier, Gorges opened his shop with an eye on the production of one of a kind bikes. Says Gorges, “I didn’t just want to assemble bikes, buying parts from suppliers and bolting everything together. I wanted to be able to build whatever I could dream and didn’t want to be constrained by other people’s ideas.”
Since its opening in 1999, Gorges and his team at Voodoo Choppers have been featured in international magazines, books, television shows and even a movie. He has also built motorcycles, a hot rod tank and a wild wheelie machine for two Discovery Channel series. Most recently, Gorges has been seen at work in Voodoo Choppers in a commercial for Motor City Denim’s “We Make it Here” campaign.
